If you or your neighbours like to celebrate bonfire night with a firework display it may be best to bring your chickens into the house. You can put them in a spacious cardboard box lined with straw and with plenty of air holes and then pop them back into the garden in the morning. Chickens will head straight for any ashes left over from a bonfire so just make sure that they have cooled down to avoid any accidental recipe ideas.

School fetes are a waste of time. They might as well stick a big bucket outside of the school gates and mug you as you walk past. It'd be quicker and easier for everyone. They managed to suck every penny out of me, especially as they put this cute, non-threatening, non-scary duck up as a tombola prize.

SWMBO's tombola luck is noteworthy. I think her affliction has rubbed off on me. I didn't believe her when she said she never wins a prize ever. Two years ago at a school fete, I worked out the odds for what she managed by way of picking non-winning tickets. It was 1 in 490,000.

In short, I spent this much: £15.46. I won this: nothing.

Oh Lordy, it's another B3ta Question of the Week! This time, the question was "Tell us about crap meals out"

Wedding Supper
The wife and I were invited to a wedding involving some distant branch of the in-laws. A shotgun affair, they'd done the whole wedding on the cheap and the meal was a rather sparse buffet. Naturally, the top table got first go on the food, and we watched with horror as the bride, groom and family (who suffered from what we might generously call "pie retention") tucked in like Mr Creosote on a night out. The two bottles of sparkling wine were necked in about thirty seconds, and Mr Kipling might have been exceedingly proud of his cake, had the chief bridesmaid not gone at it with both hands and a mouth like the opening of the Mersey Tunnel.

I got a lettuce leaf and two dry-roast peanuts, and I counted myself lucky.

By the time the starving hordes returned from the chip shop they'd missed the fight, and everyone had been thrown out of the village hall as a result. We got home just in time for dinner.

We at Blog Pie are shocked, SHOCKED to hear that the BBC is to phase out its long-running Grandstand programme, an excuse for men to avoid any jobs around the house for the last 48 years.

While we can take or leave the sporting content, which has frankly died on its arse after Sky Sports bought up anything worth watching, there is one sad loss that will hit the nation right in the cockles.

The Grandstand Boooooing.

The Grandstand Boooooing, for the uninitiated, or those living in the colonies, formed part of the programme's theme tune, and appeared at exactly 12.15 every Saturday afternoon, and heralded the start of the weekend's slacking off for British males for decades.

And now, they are killing it off.

First the Radio 4 UK Theme and now this, crushing the very essence of Britishness under a tide of blandity.

They'll be changing the theme to Grange Hill next.

Ah.

We do not ask the BBC to save Grandstand. Oh no, we can take or leave six hours of snooker, tennis and pro-celebrity stare-out. All we ask is this:

Every Saturday, 12.15pm: Boooooing!

I am Canadian. We are known for our macho lumberjack/courier-de-bois/prairie farmer/fisherman types who pride themselves on being able to turn their hand to just about anything. And that's just the men.

So it won't surprise people in other countries that one of our most successful TV shows has been "The Red Green Show," the tales of Possum Lodge and its members, who are led by the title character, Red Green, the man responsible for changing the meaning of "DIY" to "duct tape it yourself."

It's all quite silly, really, and that kind of humour that you either hate or love, but if you can't take the mickey out of yourself, who can you take it out of? Anyone who's ever lived in a small town anywhere in the world has met these characters, more or less.

Red has contributed such conversational gems to the Canadian vernacular as, "Spare the duct tape, spoil the job." and "Keep your stick on the ice!" and my favourite, "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

And the oh-so-apt Man's Prayer I'm a man... but I can change... if I have to... I guess.

2. Hustle. The gang of con artists led by the Man from Uncle himself try to impress a wealthy Asian business man by buying him pork and eel pie.

Another B3TA Question of the Week. "Tell us your school sports day horror stories". Righty ho:

"When you get to the railway line", said Mr Prince reminding us of the route of the annual muddy slog, "turn right and return to school."

Jimbo was new to our school, and quite the best athlete we'd ever had. He was, unfortunately, not entirely blessed in the brains department.

He got to the railway line in first place, turned right and proceeded to run down the tracks on the London-Bristol mainline. Everybody else, not caring one jot where they were being led, followed. It was just like The Railway Children, only without a lightly-oiled Jenny Agutter and with more police.

The following week, they made us all do it again. Jimbo was found, several hours later, wandering the streets of Henley, some six miles from school. Poor Jimbo. Or, as he's now known: Lord Coe*.

Youngsters have suggested a "pork pie seat" be built in a Leicestershire town synonymous with the delicacy. An initial design has been drawn up for Melton Borough Council and will be considered by officials.

The idea was put forward by youngsters attending a local youth democracy event in Melton Mowbray.

Never eat yellow snow

From yesterday's Metro newspaper [found, read only by seventeen other people, on a tube train by GW]:

Snow Idea

A rare weather phenomenon has hit South Korea.

Yellow snow fell in the capital and spread across the country.

It is feared that the snow could be a health threat. The country's meteorological office warned that the snow contains dust from the desert regions of northern China.

Met officials are unable to ascertain the exact content.

'It's tough to say whether it's yellow sand mixed in snow or if it's snow mixed in yellow sand,' a met spokesperson told Reuters.

The weather bureau have issued a yellow dust warning for twice in three days.

'I have never seen yellow snow falling before,' the met official said.

The agency said that the pollutants in the snow included heavy minerals.

As I've always said: Yellow snow is a naturally occuring phenomenon, and is perfectly safe to eat.

This is Blog Pie's 99th Post, w00t!
To celebrate, I have doneded a list, simply choc-full of interesting facts about Blog Pie, blogs, and pies. I hope you enjoy it as much as you have enjoyed all the previous 98 posts.

1. It's a blog
2. It's got five authors.
3. Although it's called 'Blog Pie' it's not edible.
4. It doesn't have four and twenty blackbirds in it either.
5. It has featured pictures of pies though.
6. And some recipes for pies too.
7. Pie, is Spanish for foot.
8. Empanada is Spanish for pie.
9. A zebra pie, has not yet been featured.
10. Blog Pie has a special Nature Corner.
11. The authors are not mad.
12. They do have letters from their respective Doctors though.
13. The Spanish for blog is blog.
14. Pie is also something to do with mathematics.
15. Or is that pi?
16. Pie in Russia is called расстегай
17. So in Russia, this blog would be called расстегай blog
18. My dog likes pies.
19. Especially pork pies.
20. Porkie pies, is Cockney Rhyming Slang for lies.

91. If you make a mud pie with worms in it and then throw it at the bully who lives in the next road, it will make him cry and his mum will come along and tell you off.
92. Same goes if you drop water bombs on him which have mud and worms in them.
93. It is not a good idea to place a fruit pie in a cannon at a re-enactment event without telling anybody.
94. But it is very funny.
95. The custard makes everything smell nice too.
96. I think I might have pie for dinner now.
97. And Casualty is on at 8.10 tonight too. So if I put the pie in the oven now, it'll be ready to eat when it starts.
